Has your child witnessed you being harmed or hurt by your intimate partner?

Your child may show any of the following symptoms:

  • sadness, nervousness, or fear
  • aggression, defiance, or avoidance
  • difficulty sleeping
  • trouble paying attention or learning in school
  • physical symptoms such as stomach aches or headaches
  • withdrawal or isolation from peers or family
  • other behaviors may include running away, substance abuse, or cutting

All signs and symptoms associated with traumatic stress affect children's capacity to focus and learn in school. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is a proven way to reduce symptoms and enhance resiliency.

Children who've witnessed you being harmed or hurt by your intimate partners often have confused and contradictory feelings about their parents. Often children feel torn over loyalties and caught in the middle. Children don't need to understsand to respond emotionally and physically. It's never too late or too early to get help.

The Coalition Against Rape and Domestic Violence (CARDV) is introducing Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) for children ages 8-18 years old. TF-CBT is a highly effective therapy program for children exposed to domestic violence. TF-CBT will include 12-16 sessions with a knowledgeable, experienced, and licensed child and adolescent therapist.
